(TITC) - Just 70 kilometers west of Ha Noi, nestled within the lush embrace of the Ba Vi mountains, the K9 Da Chong Relic Site is far more than a historical landmark - it is a place where memory, landscape, and legacy converge. Closely tied to the life and work of President Ho Chi Minh, K9 carries the special value of history, where each path, structure, and artifact tells a story of vision, resilience, and devotion to the nation.

What began as a simple resting spot during one of President Ho Chi Minh’s working trips would, in time, become a strategic base of the Party Central Committee - shaping critical national decisions and later undertaking a mission of profound historical importance during the war years. Today, K9 stands as a cultural and historical treasure, offering visitors a deeply moving journey into Viet Nam’s past.

A landscape of strategy and serenity

Set against a backdrop of forested hills and bordered by the Da River, K9 Da Chong possesses a rare harmony of natural beauty and strategic advantage. Its discreet terrain, coupled with accessibility by land, water, and air, made it an ideal location during a time when foresight was essential.

In May 1957, while inspecting a military exercise, President Ho Chi Minh paused here beneath three jagged rock formations resembling sharpened stakes - “Da Chong” in Vietnamese. Recognizing the site’s potential, he returned less than a year later to officially select it as a Central base. This decision reflected not only an astute reading of geography, but also a visionary preparedness for a war that could expand to the North.

From that point forward, K9 was thoughtfully developed into a self-contained base. At its heart stands a modest two-story stilt house, designed with the President’s direct input. Every detail - from the open corridors to the natural ventilation - reflects his famously simple lifestyle and deep connection to nature.

Between 1960 and 1969, K9 became one of President Ho Chi Minh’s key working residences. Here, he met with members of the Politburo to deliberate on pivotal strategies during the resistance war, while also welcoming international guests - quietly strengthening bonds of solidarity with nations around the world.

A sacred duty in time of war

Following President Ho Chi Minh’s passing in 1969, K9 entered one of the most solemn chapters in its history. Amid the intensifying war, the site was entrusted with the critical task of safeguarding his embalmed body. Chosen for its seclusion, natural concealment, and logistical flexibility, K9 became a place of both scientific precision and deep reverence.

In conditions of utmost secrecy and difficulty, specialized facilities were constructed to meet rigorous technical standards. For nearly six years, Vietnamese doctors worked side by side with Soviet experts, ensuring the preservation of the President’s body through multiple evacuations to avoid bombing raids and natural threats.

These silent, meticulous efforts - carried out under constant pressure - reflect an extraordinary level of dedication and coordination. They remain a powerful testament to the human resolve behind one of the most unprecedented missions in Vietnam’s modern history.

Echoes of the past, alive in the present

Today, K9 Da Chong retains much of its original character. The stilt house where President Ho Chi Minh once lived and worked remains remarkably intact, its simple furnishings offering an intimate glimpse into his daily life. Meeting rooms, reception areas, and living quarters have been carefully preserved, allowing visitors to step into a space that feels both authentic and deeply personal.

Beyond the architecture, the surrounding landscape enhances the experience. Tree-lined paths, quiet gardens, and shaded exercise trails evoke the President’s enduring affinity with nature - a simplicity that continues to resonate.

Other structures, including service quarters, a central guesthouse, and communication facilities, reveal how the site once functioned as a fully operational wartime base. Together, they paint a vivid picture of a place where history unfolded not in grand gestures, but in thoughtful decisions and quiet determination.

After national reunification, President Ho Chi Minh’s body was transferred to his Mausoleum at Ba Dinh Square in 1975. Two decades later, K9 officially opened to the public, welcoming visitors for remembrance, education, and reflection.

To date, the site has welcomed over 110,000 delegations with nearly 4.5 million visitors, including around 3,000 international guests. These figures indicate a steadily increasing number of visitors and a growing international reach. This affirms K9 Da Chong’s role as a site of historical education and a space of special political and cultural significance, while gradually becoming an attractive destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Day after day, visitors from across the country quietly return to K9, carrying deep respect for the beloved leader of the nation. The space here not only preserves memories but also helps foster a deeper understanding of the life, revolutionary career, ideology, morality, and style of President Hồ Chí Minh for present and future generations.
