(TITC) - On 27th October (local time), the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) organised the Vietnam Tourism Roadshow in Chengdu, the final stop of its 2025 tourism promotion series in China.

The event, hosted by VNAT in collaboration with the Vietnam Tourism Development Fund (VTDF), brought together representatives from tourism authorities, local governments, enterprises, media organizations, and performing artists.

The initiative contributes to Vietnam’s goal of increasing international arrivals in 2025 and celebrates the Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchange, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Pushing Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Through Innovative and Practical Measures

Welcoming delegates to the event, VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh, emphasized that the Roadshow not only demonstrates both countries’ shared commitment to strengthening tourism cooperation but also helps expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Southwest China.

According to VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh, since 2018, Vietnam and China have maintained an “Annual Ministerial Meeting Mechanism” along with various forms of cooperation between national, provincial, and city-level tourism authorities. Notably, Sichuan Province and VNAT signed Memoranda of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation in 2009 and 2019, laying a solid foundation for joint promotions, delegation exchanges, and business partnerships.

In 2024 and 2025, numerous delegations, tourism businesses, and airlines from both countries resumed exchanges and expanded air routes linking Chengdu-Hanoi and Chongqing-Ho Chi Minh City, significantly increasing two-way tourist flows.

During the first nine months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed nearly 3.9 million Chinese visitor arrivals, with a large and fast-growing proportion coming from the Sichuan-Chongqing region. Conversely, more Vietnamese travellers are choosing China, particularly Chengdu, Jiuzhaigou, Mount Lu, and Chongqing, as favourite destinations to experience its unique culture, cuisine, and scenery.

Going forward, both sides will enhance exchanges at the high-level, technical, and business tiers to effectively implement the Vietnam-China Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Plan (2023-2027).

VNAT expressed its willingness to work closely with the Sichuan Department of Culture and Tourism, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing, and tourism enterprises from both countries to strengthen exchanges, organize promotional events, fam trips, investment forums, and workforce training programs; advance digital transformation; and develop green and smart tourism products.

Both parties also aim to capitalize on their strengths in culture, nature, cuisine, and aviation infrastructure by developing joint packages such as MICE tours, golf tourism, and coastal resort tourism, contributing to more sustainable and high-quality bilateral visitor growth.

The partnership between Vietnam and China, particularly with Chengdu and Sichuan, has achieved tangible and promising results, yet the potential remains vast. The Chengdu Roadshow marks an important milestone, reflecting the friendship and determination to cooperate, while opening new opportunities for enterprises on both sides to jointly develop distinctive and appealing tourism products, toward a dynamic and sustainable future for Vietnam-China tourism.

Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long speaking at the Roadshow

Tourism - A Bridge of Friendship Between Vietnam and China

Mr. Bui Nguyen Long, Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing, noted that Vietnam and Sichuan have long enjoyed friendly cooperation across multiple fields such as economy, trade, education, culture, and tourism, all achieving positive results.

Vietnam remains Sichuan’s largest trading partner in ASEAN, with bilateral trade continuing to grow. An increasing number of Sichuan enterprises are investing in Vietnam, especially in manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure, and renewable energy. Meanwhile, more Vietnamese students are studying in Sichuan in disciplines such as language, engineering, and management, serving as a bridge between the younger generations of the two nations. Universities from both sides have also established partnerships in training and academic exchange.

According to Mr. Long, among all areas of cooperation, tourism is the most accessible and promising. Tourism not only drives economic growth but also plays a vital role in promoting cultural exchange and people-to-people connectivity. Sharing geographical proximity and many cultural similarities, Vietnam and China have a natural foundation for robust tourism exchanges.

The Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing is ready to serve as a bridge for cooperation with Sichuan’s provincial government, tourism departments, airlines, travel agencies, media outlets, and universities to build a joint Vietnam-Sichuan tourism promotion platform, develop new travel routes, and co-organize tourism promotion events and cultural festivals.

He also expressed hope that in the near future, more direct flights will connect Sichuan with major Vietnamese cities, facilitating easier travel between the two peoples.

Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchange, Mr. Long expressed confidence that Vietnam-China relations, especially Vietnam-Sichuan ties, will continue to flourish, with tourism serving as a bright spot in bilateral cooperation.

Refreshing Vietnam’s Tourism Image for Chinese Visitors

At the event, Chinese delegates and partners were presented with comprehensive updates on Vietnam’s tourism, including new visa policies, featured destinations, infrastructure improvements, and tourism stimulus programs tailored to the Chinese market.

Air connectivity and special travel packages were also introduced, opening new opportunities for collaboration. A Vietnam tourism video in Chinese showcased the country’s vibrant landscapes, people, and experiences, reinforcing the message: “Vietnam - Timeless Charm - Authentic Experiences, Living Heritage and Green Tourism”.

This message reaffirms Vietnam’s status as a friendly, attractive destination that can meet diverse demands of Chinese tourists, from leisure and exploration to cultural immersion.

The Roadshow concluded with a lucky draw, offering appealing prizes such as round-trip tickets and Vietnam resort vouchers. Earlier that day, a Vietnam-China Tourism Business Networking Session was also held, allowing travel agencies, hotels, resorts, convention centers, and airlines from both countries to meet, exchange information, and explore new cooperation and investment opportunities, thereby fostering stronger two-way tourism flows in the coming period.
