During the ceremony, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong praised Greg Norman’s outstanding efforts in the previous term, noting that he has played an influential role in introducing Vietnam to global audiences, particularly within the international golf community.

“As one of the most successful and respected figures in the world of golf, Greg Norman has not only brought his global reputation but also his heartfelt affection for Vietnam,” said Deputy Minister Phong. “His contributions have greatly supported Vietnam’s efforts to promote tourism and attract golf enthusiasts from around the world.”

The Deputy Minister emphasized that this appointment comes at a crucial time for Vietnam’s tourism sector. “This is a golden period to accelerate Vietnam’s tourism promotion,” he said. “The Party and State have identified tourism as a key driver of socio-economic development in the new era.”

Vietnam’s tourism industry has achieved remarkable recovery and growth since the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2024, the country welcomed 17.6 million international visitor arrivals, including approximately 3 million golf tourists, a significant milestone that demonstrates the country’s growing appeal to high-value travelers. Vietnam is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, thanks to its natural beauty, cultural diversity, and expanding tourism infrastructure.

“I saw enormous potential in Vietnam from the very first time I came here,” Norman said. “Over the years, I’ve witnessed how far the country has come, not just in tourism, but in its ability to offer world-class experiences while preserving its cultural identity. Known as “The Great White Shark” during his professional career, Norman has long been an advocate for developing golf tourism in emerging markets. His passion for Vietnam has translated into tangible results, promoting the country as one of Asia’s premier golf destinations. Under his ambassadorship, Vietnam was voted “World’s Best Golf Destination” by the World Golf Awards multiple times, a testament to his impact on the country’s global image.

A Comprehensive Strategy for 2025–2030

During his new term, Greg Norman plans to focus on several strategic areas to enhance Vietnam’s position in the global tourism market. His primary goals include:

- Promoting Vietnam as a top golf destination: Norman will use his personal media channels, international network, and appearances at major events to highlight Vietnam’s world-class golf courses and breathtaking natural landscapes.

- Expanding tourism promotion abroad: He will participate in promotional campaigns and roadshows in key markets such as the United States, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, showcasing Vietnam’s golf and leisure potential.

- Connecting golf with culture and heritage: Norman aims to integrate golf tourism with Vietnam’s cultural and historical experiences. He will support events like the Heritage Golf Festival in Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang, designed to combine sports, heritage, and community engagement.

- Advising on sustainable development: Recognizing the importance of environmental protection, he will collaborate with Vietnamese authorities to promote eco-friendly golf course design and sustainable tourism practices.

- Bringing world-class tournaments to Vietnam: Plans are underway to cooperate with international organizations such as LIV Golf and other professional tours to organize major golf events in Vietnam, raising the country’s global sporting profile.

- Developing youth talent: A flagship initiative will be the establishment of the Greg Norman Golf Academy in Vietnam, focusing on training young golfers and incorporating golf into physical education programs. The goal is to make golf more accessible to Vietnamese youth and nurture the next generation of talent.
